Custom Tile Murals totalling 500 square feet

Mural painting takes
a leap from my functional floral pottery, bringing memories of the
large scale oil painting I did as a master's student. To bring life
to the flowers, I start with the largest brush first, infusing vital
energy and gesture into the initial composition.
The background is painted quickly so the glazes have a chance to blend
before they dry.

|
Planning ahead
where flowers and forms are to drape or rise keeps my vision ever
present. In this initial stage, being aware of the application of
lights and darks allows the flowers and forms to later manifest
in full vibrancy.
Painting
in underglazes requires repetition of the glaze application. Many
people don't realize the time and deliberateness needed to create
the brilliance I so enjoy in my floral designs. The glazes are mixed
carefully to get the color needed for highlights and line details.
|
With
an extensive palette I find it easy to create colors that work for
any desired environment.
Working
for hours with a fine brush brings definition to the floral forms.
One of the greatest fulfullments in this project was the attention
I could give to detail. Once fired the glaze comes alive and on
close inspection every brushstroke can be seen. This is the truest
reward for my efforts.
